I learned early in my career that details and words matter. Since the beginning of my career, I have been negotiating purchase and sale agreements, construction contracts, leases, red herrings and similar documents. It became clear that well written documents are extremely important to successful transactions. Well written agreements need to stand the test of time. I also learned to take the time necessary to complete projects properly, no cutting corners. Even though it may take more time or seem to cost more, if you do it right, it will benefit you and the project in the long term and ultimately save time and money later. I have carried this philosophy into all facets of my career.
OUR APPROACH

Words Matter

We take the time to learn the facts of your project. This may mean dozens of hours reading bond and transaction docs, title policy exceptions and engineering plans. We have an efficient, yet thorough approach. Oftentimes our initial doc review and time needed for our learning curve on your project are at reduced or no cost to the client.

Client Goals

We take the time to listen to and work with the client. In many engagements we become part of the client's internal organization - copied on project emails and attending meetings (many times at no cost to the client) creating efficiencies for us both. We see ever evolving client goals and can pivot accordingly. 

Reduce Risk

Much of what we do is provide guidance and counsel to clients for the most informed and structured decision making all to produce the best client outcome but also to reduce risk. By integrating into the client's internal team, we can see the whole picture and provide real time and informed decision making and reduce client risk. Our experience crosses all disciplines.

Efficient Execution

With our efficient document management and retention, we are able to recall terms and data needed without having to spend countless hours re-reviewing documents (contracts, operating agreements, loan documents, etc.)

30 years of Complex Projects

Jim Brodie founded Complex / Partners on the simple premise of helping clients decipher the complexities of litigation and transaction work. Three decades later, Jim and his team are still going strong, providing their consulting services to premier clients. Before launching Complex Partners, Jim’s career included everything from being Chief Investment Officer of an NYSE listed REIT, running the master planned communities business for a leading international construction company to working as a consulting expert in complex and high stakes litigation. Jim’s robust career also includes projects spanning nine states, where he has worked on development projects encompassing 10,000 acres of land; acquired, developed and asset managed 4,000 apartment units; rehabbed 1,500 apartment units; acquired and developed 3,000,000 SF of commercial space.
